This work is a screen print in the form of a discount coupon.
Yes, a real coupon.
The coupon allows people to purchase Oya’s works with a 15% discount. When it is used, it is punched, then returned to its owner, who can retrieve and keep it as an object. The coupon expires on December 31, 2099, the end of this century.
The idea comes from Oya’s experience with Chinese online shopping platforms, particularly Taobao. On Taobao, users receive coupons to encourage purchases. Some of these coupons have extremely long expiration dates — sometimes 60 or 70 years. For example, in 2025, Oya received a coupon that will not expire until 2085.
In this work, Oya translates this system of consumption into the field of art. The coupon becomes both a tool of exchange, a record of use, and an object to keep, navigating between commercial logic and temporal absurdity. This is certainly a promise as well.
